Re: an urgent call for ministerial intervention in the affairs of University of Benin; a directive to the Govening Council to cause the appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor. Being a rejoinder by the Benin National Congress. 13th August 2014.

The Hon. Minister,

Ministry for Education,

Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

Dear Sir,

At an emergency meeting at the instance of the Board of Trustees of the Benin National Congress specifically conveyed to challenge the centrifugal tendencies of a group of mischief makers and academicians of questionable reputation who caused a letter to be written to your good self, for the specific purpose of tarnishing the image of Prof. O. G. Oshodin as well as the towering credentials of the management team of the ivory tower; as a key stakeholder that spearhead the enthronement of the current administration of the University (30th November till date) we wish to state unequivocally that the three-page-petition and the nine attached annexures where maliciously articulated with a devious aim to impugn the administrative credentials of the Vice Chancellor, by the very chief-suspects of Prof. Oshodin’s alleged poisonous medical condition. We believe that you will do justice to their malicious petition, by confining it (the petition) to the appropriate place – DUSTBIN.

The third attached annexures is a publication issued by our esteemed organization entitled Uniben VC critically Ill, flown abroad, and published by the Guardian newspaper. We stand by every sentence in the aforementioned publication dated 22nd May 2014. From grape vine, we learnt that the purpose of attaching our publication as one of the annexures in the petition was to weep an unholy sentiment as though we endorse their mafia-agenda. We wish to declare that the agenda is antithetical to aspiration of any progress inclined host community organization. So we rebuke the petition and all those behind it.

From Prof. Oshodin’s antecedent as an office holder in the University of Benin, ex-students and staff of the institution nicknamed him a walker holic because he comes to his duty posts on Saturday’s and Sundays to attend to urgent and critical office work. That a man is sick, not by any natural development, but substantially by a deviously-infused anti-body on account of which he was flown abroad and has substantially recovered unless that the Hospital is few days away from discharging him, empathy demands that a set of staff who claimed that they love him should treat perceived absent misdemeanor with respect, passion and candor; to resort therefore to diabolic orchestra by endorsing such a letter and voting as much as one million, three hundred thousand naira for its publication is to say the least ungodly.

The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigerian and the civil service rules envisaged such an unpredictable development and thus outlined ways of intervening to sustain and enhance administrative standards; and we are abundantly conversant by the sacrosanct steps that have been taking by the Council and the Senate of the University to promote a robust academic and administrative atmosphere; it is nauseating and self-serving therefore, a situation where members of the same academic community will concoct untenable crops of fallacies to poison the image of the very man that they wish should die. God have mercy!!!

In one of our recent publication, we called on the Nigeria’s intelligence community to take steps to clamp down of those behind the poisonous attack on the Vice Chancellor; the authors of this petition deliberately did not attach that publication to their malicious piece because it will not serve their interest. The whole unwritten scheme about their plot is a back door plan to install their questionable candidate as acting or substantive VC, and as a vibrant host community organization with all the apparatuses at our disposal will resist such a destructive project.

The Hon. Minister sir, we call on you to use your good offices as the first two term Governor of Kano state to conscientiously examine the underpinnings of this petition and give a candid verdict to it, in a manner that will serve the interests of the academic and no academic community who have immensely benefited from the University’s uncommon transformation, under Prof. O. G. Oshodin’s hand, as Vice Chancellor.

We will continue to watch and pray.

Chief Michael Edobor Imasogie – Secretary, Board of Trustees

Dr. David Ekomwenrenren – Director of Publicity and Intelligence.
